JIC issues final call for GEM Awards tickets

New York–Seats are still up for grabs for the seventh annual Jewelry Information Center (JIC) GEM Awards gala, taking place this Friday at Manhattan’s Cipriani 42nd Street.

JRB to offer business-ed classes for jewelers

New York–Jewelry designer and Swarovski heiress Vanessa Swarovski Piedra will debut her new lifestyle brand at the upcoming ENK Accessorie Circuit show.

The first products to launch for the new “VSP” brand–whose name comes from Swarovski Piedra’s initials–are five jewelry collections featuring the Austrian crystals for which the Swarovski brand is world-famous.

The “Turnstyle Collection” features microsuede bracelets with pave crystal bands and snaps that can be linked to form necklaces, belts, armbands and more.

Iconic coffee cup perks up Couture design contest December 12, 2008 This iconic coffee cup, often clutched by New York City residents on the go, is the inspiration for a new Couture design contest.  New York–Organizers of the Couture Club Pavilion at the upcoming JA New York Winter Show have invited all exhibiting members to put on their creative hats in a new design challenge: re-imagining the iconic New York Greek coffee cup as a piece of wearable art.New Yorkers use and throw away as many as 15 million of the coffee cups in a single month, and with that idea in mind, the contest is designed to inspire the industry to reduce, reuse and recycle, all while paying homage to New York–America’s style capital.Designers participating in the contest, dubbed the “Couture-NY Designer Challenge,” must use a portion or an entire coffee cup in their piece of wearable art.

New York–Just in time to target the rising number of style-conscious “recessionistas,” the Silver Institute is rolling out a marketing campaign to promote silver jewelry as a fashionable and affordable choice.The efforts led off with a media launch event on Wednesday night at Michael’s in New York City, where editors had a chance to meet with designers, check out some of the jewelry designs and learn more about the initiative.The Silver Institute has marketed silver jewelry in the past, but the new Silver Marketing Initiative marks the first time since 2001 that there has been a full-scale effort in place for promoting sterling silver jewelry.
